What Makes Us Different
We know it is a big decision to select a lactation counselor. Here is why families are turning to First feedings.
-
Brianna and Melody are both International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs), the highest credential in lactation care, requiring extensive clinical experience and examination. What distinguishes First Feedings is the integration of specialized clinical backgrounds.
Brianna is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) with expertise in pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders. Her training enables her to assess and manage complex feeding issues that extend beyond typical lactation concerns.
Melody is a licensed Pediatric Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA), applying neuromuscular and developmental principles to lactation support. Her whole-body approach ensures comprehensive care tailored to each infant's needs.
-
With nearly a decade of combined professional experience, Brianna and Melody have supported families through a wide range of infant feeding challenges. Brianna and Melody have provided care in private practice, early intervention, and collaborative medical settings.
Their clinical experience includes supporting infants with oral restrictions (such as tongue and lip ties), premature and NICU graduates, and children with complex medical diagnoses, including Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other developmental differences. They are skilled in addressing both common and complex feeding concerns with evidence-based, individualized care.
Their personal experiences as mothers add meaningful depth to their work. Brianna is a mom of two (with a third on the way), and Melody is a mom of four. Having navigated the joys and challenges of feeding their own children, they bring a compassionate, realistic perspective that resonates with families.
This dual lens—professional expertise and lived experience—allows them to meet families where they are, offering support grounded in both clinical knowledge and heartfelt understanding. They recognize that feeding is never “one size fits all,” and are committed to helping each family find what works best for them.

What is involved in lactation care?
Lactation care is more than just breastfeeding support—it’s about helping families feed their babies in ways that are effective, sustainable, and aligned with their goals. At First Feedings, we take a comprehensive, feeding-inclusive approach that respects the diverse needs of every family.
During a lactation or feeding consultation, we assess:
Infant oral function, including tongue, lip, cheek, and jaw movement
Parent comfort, milk supply, and feeding efficiency
Breast, bottle, and pumping strategies, including flange fitting
Bottle refusal and combination feeding (breast and bottle)
Feeding-related challenges such as nipple pain, low weight gain, oversupply, or fussiness at the breast or bottle
Readiness for and transitions to solids, including responsive feeding practices and modified diets for medical or developmental needs
Each care plan is individualized and collaborative. We work closely with parents to develop practical, evidence-based strategies that support both short- and long-term feeding goals—whether that involves exclusive breastfeeding, exclusive bottle feeding, pumping, combination feeding, or transitioning to solids. We enjoy coordinating care with other specialists and team members to ensure continuity and support for the whole family.

I can't say enough how thankful I am for Brianna! I had been having problems breastfeeding my son since he had been born and my midwife recommended I give Brianna a call and see if she could help troubleshoot some of the issues I had been having. She came out to my house the first time and helped me with positioning (which made a huge difference in making it more comfortable for me to hold him) and measuring how much milk he was getting during a feed. She continued to follow up with me weeks after that first visit and even offered to give me a call when I told her I was experiencing some breast pain after feeding him. She came out to my house for another visit as I was still having some trouble and gave me practical information on how to maximize my success in pumping, some tips on how to get a better latch on the breast that's been giving me trouble and reassured me that I was feeding my son enough with my supply. She is so patient, kind, knowledgeable, and just a wonderful person to lean on for support when you're a first time mom with absolutely no idea what you are doing. Thank you so much, Brianna!text goes here

The internet has so many opinions on how to introduce solids to babies, and I was feeling so overwhelmed. First Feedings helped walk me through the information to make the best decisions for my baby.

Brianna was amazing. She was very professional but also felt very comforting. She took into consideration the needs of my baby and me. She had great recommendations and my daughter was able to bottle feed from other caregivers after our sessions

My husband and I (and our baby) cannot thank Brianna enough for all the work she's done with us. Brianna helped us from the very beginning, after baby lost a significant amount of weight. She was detail-oriented, solution-focused, skilled, and empathetic. Because of her recommendations tailored to our situation and family needs, we were able to get baby's weight back up for the 2-week visit. And also because of Brianna, we could continue breastfeeding in the first place, when I was discouraged and thought I might have to resort to exclusively pumping. We learned so much from Brianna and have been able to share what we learned with another couple of friends who were new parents as well. Brianna has also made herself available via text when we needed to ask quick questions. We simply could not have done it without Brianna and we are so thankful for her services.
